So I figure this is what we need to do before we make this trial public. If I missed out anything just log in on the admin account and edit it I guess, or post here and I'll add it.

* Sort out the themes, maybe put up a logo.
* Sort out user permissions so staffers are admins/mods.
* Sort out the actual forums and subforums themselves.
* Install an RSS syndication thingymajig mod if it hasn't been done already.
* Look at user integration plugins?

Is there not a way to have this use the wiki's user database? If it was mentioned in the field base it was too tl;dr for me to find any specifics.

A user integration plugin was mentioned, whereby people would use their phpBB accounts or whatever to log into the wiki, but I wonder if it's worth the hassle and potential annoyances such a plugin may bring.

Edit: Here's the plugin Qwerty mentioned.

The plugin works from phpBB to wikis, not the other way around unfortunately.
Also, I should be making my own proper account with an actual name, but so far I've been too used to using this one. :/

Can't you just change your username with admin powers? Or is that not possible with phpBB?

- I'm not an artist, so I'm not drawing up a logo.
- I installed the Cold Phoenix thing though, and made it the default skin for now.
- Made everyone mod for now. We should have at least one active admin though, so whoever wants it, fine.
- I made super-duper awesome sub-forums. Up for debate though.
- Done. Took fucking long.
- Blah blah no can do I think.

The current PSUPedia logo would be fine to use here, I think. I'd change it, but I'm not quite sure how. <_<;

It works well.

All bureaucrats (so you, Qwerty, and Hitomi if he ever comes here) should be admins. But if you feel you need another, I'll do it. It's up to you though, as a SysOp I'd just be happy with a mod position.

My opinions:

* Seperate the PSU and PSUP sections. PSU can just have General Discussion for now, although I guess there might be an argument for some kind of DPSFAG forum as well. It's just getting the balance right between giving people the opportunity for discussion and the serious business of wiki submissions.
* Give PSUP two sections - PSUP Site Discussion for general sheit and PSUP Info Submission for, well, info and corrections.
* As much as having a forum called 'Shit' is hilarious, I think Off-Topic will do ;/
* Don't see a need for Drama or Trades, Diadu can handle the former and other boards the latter.

Apparently, we have some problems.

Using prosilver, you can't actually view any topics or posts, which is kind of sucky.

Additionally, clicking the "edit posting defaults" link in the user CP gives an error on all styles.

The link to the syndication page appears only when using prosilver, and attempting to view that url with any other style gives an error.

Any idea how to fix this shit? I reckon the problems are all related to the RSS plugin, and how it integrates into styles, but I've no idea how to fix it.

EDIT: And another problem to add to the list. The RSS feed creator doesn't seem to differentiate between public and hidden forums, so we could potentially have unregistered guests snooping around in the staff forum via an RSS. :|

EDIT AGAIN OHGOD: Ok, I did a little more looking around, and perhaps we ought to try a different plugin instead: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... &sk=t&sd=a
This one looks more advanced anyway, it appears (from the description, at least) to be able to limit access based on user permissions, so maybe we should ininstall the previous mod and replace it with this? I'd do it, but I have no idea how. Tycho?

Tried the image stuff, but it seems slow, and purging the cache seems to only make things worse (what is this shitty error?).
Also, Op'd you and changed user/pass for this account. Don't need an admin test account anymore now that there's real Admins, so that's done too.

Qwerty's post I can't read anymore now >_<, but anyway, one of the HUGE flaws of this god-awful software is that all 'MODs' really just mean 'follow the instructions to manually change your files' (including style ones, which is terrible because there's multiple ones that are all different, and ugh). Lemme get back at you when this error goes away. D:

Finally managed to register....

The template/mod system for phpBB is a bit horrid I have to warn you.

I've fix the syntax error again, please make a backup of the styles you are changing, so if anything goes wrong you can just revert.

Also the styles seem to differ based on if you are registered/logged in or not.

Images don't show in this new template either.

Why phpBB, why!

*waits for admin access*

Gave you your rank and permissions, but Tycho is the only one who can add you to the Admin group.

Added Hitomi as admin. I actually wouldn't mind removing custom colours for admin/mod names (modesty is good), but it'd probably involve keeping ten styles modded, and they do serve a purpose, sorta.
Oh, sorry for all style crap, it hasn't been working out very well for me. D:

Fixed 'edit posting defaults' error.
Doing the rest of this RSS crap is gonna suck bad. >_<
Will look into it.

Fixed all this crap. At last.
Edit: .. Except I get a blank feed even when setting it to Save HTML, but little documentation seems available and I really don't have a clue. ~_~
Edit: Mewn said it worked for him (why not for me?), so now I added RSS functionality (note: not the button, since I have no idea how for the other ones) to all styles. Oh, and I changed the site logo for all styles too. The only style that has the tendency to crash seems to be prosilver (ironic since it's the standard one), but I've got them down now. I know it occurs only when the style's (general?) cache is cleared, and it's always the same file changes. So I put back-ups of the corresponding files on the FTP so people could overwrite them if needed.

Does RSS work for you guys? Apparently Safe HTML is the easiest way to make it work properly.

Adding more languages would be nice too. Doesn't cost much, easy to install.

RSS looks like it works tho there's only your last post in there. Guess it doesn't take what has been posted before installation.

Tried looking for language packs for a minute, but only really found them for phpBB2. Anyway, seeing as having some of an English comprehension is pretty much a requirement to hang around in an English wiki community in the first place, is this really needed? I know that not even all of us are native speakers (including me). If users are having trouble understanding a generic forum interface, the actual content is most definitely going to be a problem.
RSS is still broken for me, but apparently it's something on my side anyway, and I didn't mind much in the first place.

So I'm thinking we've got all the essential stuff down at this point, no?

Edit: Oh, I just increased avatar limits to 100*100 at 12kb. The 100*100 cause the small difference allows for 96*96, and uh.. okay, I just wanted both to make my new avatar not look like shit. >_>

Oic wut u did thar.

Anyway, just one more question about the RSS. Essen, when you set it up, how many forum sections were available to you? I just want to make sure it is working right with permissions.

For now I just used the global RSS from the index page so I get all the posts. If you posted in a private section between my first post and now then it's filtered correctly and I don't get the private posts.

I just made a test post in a private forum. Let me know if it ("Can you see me?") shows up for you in the feed.

I guess there's no more problems then. Seems like we're ready to begin the trial. Apparently I get the honour of publically opening this, so I'll put a couple of things in motion.

Well that about makes it official. We're using British English and anyone that doesn't add in the 'u's is going to get Nazi trolled.

Anyway, this looks to be more than sufficient (copied my official board account info until I can be more creative). Thought I would give a thumbs up for what it's worth. So correct me if I'm wrong but would this essentially play out as the 'new' Raffon Field Base? I'm all for talk pages, but it seems a lot of that one in particular might be rerouted here (whether it's intended or not). I guess I have this sorta fear of unneeded redundancy.

In my opinion the talk pages are good for individual topics, but Raffon is pretty daunting. If people started to use this forum for many of those types of topics, it's purpose may soon go down the drain. I always thought a forum here might be more for assistance with the site than anything else, so I guess I'm just asking for a bit of clarity.

I'm inclined to agree that Raffon can be a bit daunting and unorganized compared to a forum, and it may be on borrowed time, but I'll keep a watch on things both here and on the wiki before any decisions are made. Essentially Raffon was created to allow general discussion but it can be a bit hard to follow.

Don't know about others, but it's not my plan to make talk pages in general obsolete, but rather for the forums to complement them and help people who may be daunted by wiki editing.

To-do: enable new posts in "General Discussion" and "PSUPedia" forums... unless I'm just completely missing something. <_<

Oops... I had no idea I'd been given access to the ACP. At any rate it should be sorted, hopefully I haven't messed it all up.

Cool; looks like it's working fine. I figured to get things rolling a bit, I'd post a synopsis of Friday's update.

Yeah. Might be a nice idea to keep a sticky of the latest update, guess you can try out that custom bbcode as well, heh.
