Well, they will on the only version that will matter ;/

Still you never know, maybe they'll rename Shifta/Deband/Jellen/Zalure to Agtal/Defbal/Agteel/Defdeel in the English translation!

Was my point :P

See previous statements I've said about Techs/Spells in Phantasy Star games always being weak and forgettable...

Though I would take a version of Megid that works like in PS2 and damages my own team

Magic has been very weak in all Final Fantasy and Seiken Densetsu games too. Might be some kind of cultural aspect or something, I dunno.

It immediately makes me think parlor trick magician instead of FOmar. I'm sure there will be other styles, though; hopefully a pope hat or two. XD

Oh, and red-haired chicky faded into the background seems to be newman instead of human like I originally thought. Part of her ear is just covered up by HUnewm guy's head attachment thinger. And there's some amulet/broach on her chest. Willing to bet it holds the key to the destruction and/or restoration of the world! ;) [/RPG cliché]

Looks like all 14 classes are represented there:

* HUcast
* HUcaseal
* HUmar
* HUmarl
* HUnewm

* RAmar
* RAcast
* RAcaseal

* FOmar
* FOmarl
* FOnewm
* FOnewearl

That leaves the green-haired girl at the bottom, who I think is a HUnewearl and the human just above the FOmarl... a RAmarl, perhaps?

And the Dragon gets top billing ;P

Top hats are fine as long as FOmars can get a monocle as well

There was something on Shougai PSO about multiplayer in the game, Espio. I can't read it, so I don't know if you missed it or just didn't think it worthy of comment.

But yeah, looking forward to TGS. Starts about the 8th of October, right?

October 9. ;)

Yeah, I saw that stuff at Shougai, but forgot to mention it. Basically, it says that online play will be free. Still aren't any details on how (or if) friend codes will be used and dungeons will be like PSO and PSU where there are multiple random variations of an area.

Looks like it's some sorta arm band, but I think it'd be better if it were large enough to be a headband and people could be walking around with re-designed rappies on their foreheads

Little tidbits keep rolling in.

* The latest issue of Gemaga is reporting that wireless play will support only 2-4 players, despite previous reports of allowing solo play over a wireless connection. This brings into question how players will meet one another for online play.
* The chain battle system is party-based. Chains add up as each party member attacks an enemy.

Story character names revealed.

Red-haired newman chicky is Salisa, described as "a young girl from a forgotten race." (Dun dun dun... newmans... forgotten?) Human dude with massive sword is Kai; he is called a veteran Hunter.

Photon arts confirmed to return. (That explains individual PP gauges as opposed to TP.) Also, one new technique revealed: Alresta. It seems that Resta will heal only the caster, while Alresta will heal in a radius around the caster.

Now don't quote me on this just yet. I'll need a better scan to confirm it, but it looks like in the newman info section, it says they were born on the moon. ... ... >_> The picture gets kind of blurry around this part, so that might be partially off. But, I do see 月で生まれ (the next kanji is too small and blurry to read), which translates as "born on the moon." So uh... yeah.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the BGM will be like PSO where it changes with enemy encounters.

I've updated the Phantasy Star ZERO article on the wiki with the new info.

Like the sound of the BGM changing like in PSO. That was one of the things really missing from PSU.

^ Footage! O:

EDIT: Oh, jeez. Animated cutscenes. o:

EDIT2: The article has a little section on the story. It's tough to make out some of the details due to the blurriness of the image, but here's what I can see.

A massive war destroys civilization; 200 years pass and humans begin to rebuild Earth. They rebuild their cities, but in the process make new enemies. A group collectively known as "Hunters" band together to fight against said enemy using weapons based on photon energy discovered from the ancient civilization.

That's the animation studio behind the cutscenes. Anime isn't my thing, so I'll have to let someone who know who they are fill us in.

That's Kai, our "veteran Hunter." A saw a closeup of him somewhere, and noticed he's got the cliché slash across the face battle scar. I guess all games have to have at least one...

lol I rather meant "hay there Gonzo" as in the animation studio, not because I thought it was the name of the character. :V Edited for confusion

GONZO <-- this IS a link, btw
They're a big name anime company. I could've sworn they've done short animations for more games than what is listed in wikipedia, but then again it's wikipedia so what do you expect?

Sadly it also means PSZero has nothing to do with Hunter Thompson or the Muppets ;P

GONZO is ok i been watching them for a while altho most of the shows are trash they do make some good short length movies. The best running series they had on air was Last Exile during their 20th anniversary. Also judging from that trailer there are also MAGs featured hehe

They could've gone all the way and called it Saresta or something, but I guess they really have forgotten there was Phantasy Star before Online.

Sega certainly forgot what they were when making Universe.

GONZO can be really good when they have a big budget (see Last Exile, Gankutsuou, Samurai 7 and more) but knowing Sega I wouldn't expect it. The last 2 pics' background confirm it.

If you want good animation with any budget there's no studio better than Gainax.

Thanks, Mewn! I actually had translated more stuff after seeing these posted at PSOW last night, but I forgot to copy-paste that info over here. D: So now for the copy-pasting.

Now for some new stuff and clarifications. Let's start with photon arts. It says that when you use PP, you can pull off special "charge attacks" with weapons and techniques. These special skills are simply called "photon arts." In the case of weapons, charge attacks vary depending on the weapon. Sabers will allow you to perform an X slash at enemies while machineguns will have your character dancing around, wildly shooting at enemies. Techniques work in a similar manner. The example given is that the normal form of Resta will heal only yourself, but the "charged" version, Alresta, will heal in a large radius.

Evading has been added to your action palette. (It's the button in the middle that has an arrow arcing over a white dot.) Press this while holding the D-pad in the direction you want to move to. Just make sure you don't roll into another enemy!

Humans are the one race that survived the great war. They rebuilt their cities and began anew. Humans are the most populous and well-rounded race. They are recommended for beginning players.

During the great war, CASTs lay across the land, all deactivated. Then one day, they suddenly woke up with no recollection of past ways. They are the only race that can set traps and are recommended for intermediate players.

Newmans were born and raised on the moon, and are a good race that had long been forgotten. Though they exhibit low HP and defense, they excel at technique usage. Newmans are recommended for advanced players.

We have a new enemy name: Grinble. Also, it seems PSO's enemy classification system is back, as this creature is labeled as native.
